Web2View Crashing

On or around 15th March 2026 Microsoft automatically released an update to WebView2 version 146, which in certain situations will affect the operation of Caseware. We are actively working with Microsoft to find a resolution to this issue, and in the meantime we are able to offer a couple of workarounds.

Use the installer found below to configure Working Papers to use Microsoft Edge WebView2 Fixed Runtime version 145.
The installer:
  • Installs version 145 of Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime in the Working Papers installation folder.
  • Updates the Working Papers configuration files to use that version.
  • Adds UseEdgeBrowserFixedRuntime=1 to the CV.VER file.
Note: The installer does not remove the latest WebView2 Runtime version. It adds version 145 for Working Papers only. Other applications that use Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime are not affected and continue to use the latest version.
Newer versions of WebView2 may include security improvements and feature updates that are not available in WebView2 Fixed Runtime version 145. For more information, see the WebView2 Fixed Runtime Release Notes.

To download the installer:

  1. Sign in to FilesAnywhere.
  2. On the menu, select Caseware 2024 SmartSync.
  3. Download WP patch cloud users.exe.

To run the installer:

  1. Close all instances of Working Papers and CaseView.
  2. Run WP patch cloud users.exe and accept the User Account Control (UAC) message.
  3. Accept the Master Product & Services Agreement and click Next.
  4. Review the installation folder. The default folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Caseware.
  5. If the installer detects multiple versions of Working Papers, select the folder for the version you want to update.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Wait for the installation to finish.
